The Wall Street Journal reported that the administration led by Trump, the U.S. President, is reviewing the plan to lower the tariff rate imposed on Chinese imports from 50% to 65%. Walter Bloomberg quoted this report, stating that discussions are ongoing and no final conclusion has been reached yet.
The Trump administration had previously imposed cumulative tariffs of up to 145% on Chinese products. This consideration for reduction could be interpreted as a signal to partially ease trade tensions between the two countries.
If this measure is actually implemented, it is likely to contribute in part to global supply chain stabilization and alleviate price burdens, and is also drawing attention as it aligns with the recent turning point in trade negotiations with major European and Asian countries.
